The Weekly Gossip Girl Realism Scale

Every Tuesday, the previous night's Gossip Girl episode is reviewed by New York Magazine and assigned scores according to its "reality index." Below are some of the highlights, realistic and otherwise, from the publication's meticulous, hilarious of this week's episode, "The Serena Also Rises":

•Laurel: "Kirsten Dunst? So 2007. Her rehab barely made the radar.” Plus 2, because that is kind of totally true and Plus 5 for awesome bridge-burning.

•How come Eleanor Waldorf lets teenagers decide everything for her? Minus 6.

•Plus 2 for Dan Humphrey, after all his chatter about getting out of his comfort zone and the bravado of punching the guy in the club, melting into a puddle of teen angst about how his dad will react the second he and Chuck end up in jail.

•Minus 1 for Jenny wearing a string of Jell-O cubes around her neck.

•Blair takes out her rage at being usurped by Serena on Jenny, perpetuating a centuries-old cycle of girl-on-girl bullying. Plus 8.

•Minus 3 because why doesn’t anybody ever rat out Blair to her mom? Is she the only one who gets to call in adults in case of emergency?

•Dan and Chuck in jail? No way. Cops never get called to exclusive clubs, and if they did, the perpetrators would never get arrested. Minus 4.

•It's about time the Blair vs. Serena jealousy-insecurity thing came to a head again. Plus 10 to Gossip Girl writers for putting that out there.

• “Are you gay?” Chuck asks Dan after he asks to get close to him. Plus 2, because finally. Plus an extra 3 for Chuck's totally absurd neck scarf.

• “Don’t ever go to high school, Dorota! The girls are spoiled stupid and ungrateful,” wails Blair. Plus 5 for the decibel at which this rant is performed. It actually seems like Blair is going to hyperventilate, just like a real adolescent would. And plus 20 for Blair's assumption that Dorota hasn’t already gone to high school.

•Of course Bart hired a private investigator to follow Lily. Plus 2, and of course she didn’t end up caring once he gives her jewelry. Plus 2.

•The next episode teaser shows Serena and Blair at Yale. Could they be setting the stage for Gossip Girl to spin off into a college drama? Plus 5 for dreamers who dream dreams. But minus 5 because Serena would never get into Yale.

Yum! It's The Gossip Guys.

Gossip Girl hotties Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, and Penn Badgley ooze some serious deliciousness on the November 2008 issue of Details Magazine. I think the executives from Gossip Girl have finally realized that Penn and Chuck are the more attractive of the 3. Penn looks incredibly hansome and Chuck looks like his awesome self. Nate just looks okay theres something wierd about his hair. I really have never had a thing for nate. But Penn's hair looks awesome and the tan skin thing is so awesome. Here are some hilites from the interview :

Chace on after his touch-ups are done: “I literally go into the bathroom and wipe off one layer [of makeup. My occasional zit is] a big deal—oh, they turn on the alarms for that. And they get mad if I get sunburned or if I get a haircut.”

Chace on being contracted for six years, like his costars: “It never really gets frustrating. Sure, sometimes you just want to have a scene where you’re drunk or having fun. I’m hoping for a fall from grace for Nate. Five years from now, I better have murdered someone!”

Penn on his on-and-off-screen relationship with costar Blake Lively (they were home-schooled together): “[It's] wonderful and also something to grapple with [in terms of mixing work and pleasure]. You have to draw the line somewhere. I’m fine talking about my family and personal history, because it humanizes you. But I have to save some s— for me.”

Ed on Penn’s chest hair: “Penn said he has to shave his chest hair because it’s threatening “Reeeaallly … Well, I think Penn’s chest hair may be more like a scaahf. It actually comes out of his neck! So maybe that’s why he has to cut it. Threatening? I don’t know what threatening hair would look like. We’d have to get Penn here to see!”

Ed on being miserable approaching the end of school in the U.K.:”I don’t understand how the government expects a 16-year-old to know what they want to do. It made me incredibly anxious and upset.”

Soo Akward :]

Good girl no more Serena Van der Woodsen, aka Blake Lively , kisses her new love interest on Gossip Girl, played by Stick Its John Patrick Amedori, in the middle of Times Square in New York City on Tuesday. According to E!. Amedori and Lively (both 21) shared the on-set smooch with everyone in the vicinity. It even appeared on the world’s largest JumboTron screen! In the show, Amedori plays an artist with a philanthropic side in the current second season. In the book he plays Blairs step brother. Personally I think this is so wierd because off screen Blake and Penn are so adorable. Wow that must have been akward. On set Penn and Blake have so much chemistry, you can tell these two look uncomfortable. Must keep telling myself its just a show (well an awesome one at that). Maybe the on set relationship wont last. :]

Jesse's Going Greek

According to EW, Jesse McCartney will be joining the Greek cast on ABC Family. The singer/actor will play the part of Andy, a heavily recruited freshman jock who'll be torn between two of the Frats on the show. He's set to make his Greek debut in early '09 when the show kicks off its fourth season. Good for him maybe he will sing on the show! :]

ANTM Gamer Style

An America's Next Top Model video game for Nintendo DS will hit the shelves in November.
You'll guide your very own model in her quest for the top model crown. There'll be challenges and photo shoots just like the show! Im so excited (Haha lame I know) this game is so going to be awesome. Make sure to watch on Wednesdays on The CW. :]

Is that Ashlee Simpson? No it's Rumer Willis with her new and improved hair. :]

Rumer Willis goes through airport security and then departs from LAX on Saturday. She will guest star on CSI: NY’s landmark 100th episode, where she will be playing a character by the name of Mac Taylor. The epsiode will air on Wednesday, Nov. 19. Personally i think she looks so much better with the long hair. It makes her look so much more feminine. She has such a strong face and the shirt hair was to harsh. The long hair is a great improvment and the red sticks out in a good way. Is long red hair the way of the future? Who knows. What do you think of this new look: Woohoo or Boohoo?

A Girl Anthem :]

Britney Spears a surprise visit at radio station Z100 New York City on Monday afternoon. Here's what she had to say:

Talk about [your new single] “Womanizer”. It’s a really cool song. I like the fact that it’s so empowering for girls because it’s basically saying, ya know, we know what you’re up to. It’s about guys cheating on other girls and stuff like that. And it’s kinda like a girl anthem, so that’s why I like it.

I gotta ask about the T word here. Are we gonna see a tour anytime soon? We’re dying for a tour. Oh, definitely next year. Definitely.

Anything else you want to say to New York City that we don’t all ready know? I miss it here so much! I love it so much! It makes me it’s kinda like bittersweet coming here because I used to live here for two years. And when I come here, it’s like, man, I wish I had my apartment here still. But I love it. Miley Cyrus and "boyfriend" Justin Gaston have dinner at Table 8 in Los Angeles on Thursday night. The couple has usually been seen out and about with Miley’s parents, but this time they had some alone time! They were also seen in the car together. Uh-Oh I keep trying to convince myself they arent together but uh... dinner without the parents. I need some holding hands, hugging, kissing (yuck) proof. Until then we will have to see. Oh and Miley your bangs were staring to look so cute again. Not these new bangs are terrible. But why did you have to cut them? Ooh if Justin told you to do it, didnt we already learn out lesson not to listen to boyfriends (Nick) about what to do with our hair. We dont want you to dye your hair all black again. :?

Be Careful Miley

Miley Cyrus has developed a vocal chord nodule, caused by continual straining of the voice. If left untreated the small bundle of tissue could lead to surgery and affect Miley's voice. "Her concerned parents took her to the doctor, who diagnosed the beginning stages of a nodule," a source told Star Magazine. Miley's doctor has recommended that she rest her vocal chords for three weeks. Ignoring the doctor's advice, Miley kept her recent performances, at Stand Up to Cancer event on September 5 and Concert for Hope fund-raisers on September 14, short. She plans to go ahead with her concert at Connecticut's Foxwoods Resort Casino on Saturday, September 27. Could her vocal chord strain be the reason why the normally super busy Miley has been finding time to go around with new boyfriend Justin Gaston almost daily? Be careful Miley! :/

What A Cutie.

A pregnant Jennifer Garner and daughter Violet Affleck share a smile as they head to a nursery school in Santa Monica, Calif. on Wednesday. Jen, 36, will be hosting the first “Voices for a Senate Majority” fundraiser to support Democratic senatorial candidates. Most kids are crying on the first days of school but Violet looks to happy. Shes so cute. :]

Even though this couple may be broken up on Gossip Girl they are still happy and adorable together off screen. Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley head to the their set in New York City on Tuesday. Penn, 21, reportedly was a good Samaritan on-set as he helped open a door when a lady came in her apartment pushing a baby on a stroller. What a gentleman! After those last two episodes I was worried about them. But then i realized those episodes were filmed months ago! Silly me, anyways just a cute picture of the couple. :]

Chuck Bass Snogging ... Drew Barrymore?

Last night photos sprung up of *GASP Drew Barrymore and Ed Westwick in full makeout mode. Woah woah woah isn't it Nate who goes for the older women? Barrymore is 33 and Westwick is 21. A bit of an age difference if you ask. Don't get me wrong the whole British accent thing is definitely a huge plus and he is on Gossip Girl. Meaning you would get to meet Leighton, Blake and Penn (*Swoon). A Vanity Fair photographer caught the actress and the 'Gossip Girl' star in a heavy makeout session at the Kings of Leon concert on Sept. 23. Us Weekly reports that "They were spotted chatting this past weekend at a Saturday Night Live after-party, which The Kings of Leon also played. They then headed to NYC's hip Fat Cat Billiards, where they stayed until 6 a.m., shooting pool with Gossip Girl cast members (including Crawford), actress Ellen Page and Emile Hirsch." Here are some of the highlights, both realistic and otherwise, from the publication's meticulous analysis of week's show, "The Ex-Files"

• Plus 2 for Lily finally coming home. And an additional Plus 1 for the fact that her version of "caring" for her kids is overordering room service. Plus 2.

• Didn't they just befriend Nelly Yuki to bring her down? Why is she still hanging around? Is it seriously because the other Asian girl left the show? Minus 2.
• "Google revenge, you'll get BlairWaldorf.com," says Dan. Snarf, snarf, snarf, you can't win us back that easily, you sexy dweeb. Minus 1.

• "Having to see him," Serena admits to Lily, "it's going to be hard." She seems so sweet and unsure, huh? Our immediate reaction was: "Aw, that's sweet. This will change." Plus 4, because we were so right.

• Wait, did Nate just randomly (and awkwardly) catch up with Vanessa on a random Brooklyn street corner? What, is Brooklyn Chelsea now? Minus 1.

  

• "Are those Tory Burch's last-season flats?" Blair asks. "I got them on sale?" the poor girl replies. Plus 3, because Blair's expression does not change a tic, but somehow gets TEN TIMES MORE EVIL. Leighton Meester is a genius.

• "I guess it's better to be ignored than tortured," Jenny says. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha. Oh, Lil J. Obviously, that's not true. Minus 2.

• Serena thinks it’s a good idea to try to be friends with Dan. "Friends eat lunch together," she says hopefully. Awkward. Also, completely realistic. Plus 5.

• This new "Amanda" girl is too aggressive. It's like she's up to something. Minus 2, because this should have been less obvious.

• "Lunch?" Blair asks. "As in the meal before dating?" Plus 3.

• Ha, Amanda is is kind of Hannah Montana–esque. Plus 1 for Jenny Humphrey, who is completely master of her domain this season.

• Dan says to Vanessa, "Look, V, I gotta go." What, he talks like them now!? Minus 2, because he's too self-centered to pick up on mannerisms of others.

Over the weekend reports circulated that Cyrus, 15, and her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, have been causing drama on the Disney Channel set by coming to work late and openly talking about wanting to get fired. There were also rumors of a rift between Miley and her costar Emily Osment. A Disney Channel rep calls talk of on-set squabbles "just gossip," while a source close to Miley Cyrus says: "It's a lot of craziness." "Every minute of her day is planned out. When she's not shooting the movie or the series, she's recording the [Hannah Montana] soundtrack.It's not going away any time soon." Phew. Miley's blond wig and catchy dance tunes aren't going anywhere. Children breath a sigh of relief our favorite pop sensation Hannah Montana is here to stay! :]

Looking a Little Lame Lauren

Lauren Conrad is seen in navy chiffon gown she designed herself for the 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards that take place at the Nokia Theatre on Sunday in Los Angeles. The 22-year-old Hills star is set to present at the ceremony. Lauren and last season’s Project Runway winner Christian Siriano also designed gowns for the trophy girls this year.

Lauren doesn't look bad, nor does she look awesome but just simple. I was expecting something breath taking or at least beautiful. This is... nice. She looks a bit to mature and way way too tan. Her clothes from her line have always been simple, but this is the Emmy's not the Teen Choice Awards. At least years event Lauren wore an teal same type of dress just shorter. The heart shaped design at her bust is the exact same thing we saw last year. Personally the dress she wore at the 2007 TCA was a bit cuter and a more appropriate color for a girl of only 22. Vivacious Victoria

Former Zoey 101 actress Victoria Justice looks cute and comfy in a Zinc vintage dress at the 2008 Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party which took place the rooftop of The Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Thursday.The 15-year-old Nickelodeon starlet accessorized her look with patent leather boots by Report and a gun metal gray clutch by Rock N Republic. Victoria topped off her dress with a black leather jacket by Gi & Jo. Victoria will soon be starring in the upcoming original Nick pic Spectacular!, which is set in the competitive world of show choirs. She also has her very own Nick series and an original pic in the works as well. Will it be as good as Zoey 101 and a one season show? Either way I'm excited. :]

Salma Hayak attends a Vanity Fair party in Sevill, Spain with her daughter Valentina on Thursday afternoon. Valentina is Adorable! Dont you think? In July, the 42-year-old actress French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault announced the end of their engagement. On Sunday, Salma is expected to get up close and personal with Jimmey Kimmel on his pre-Emmy Awards special this Sunday called Jimmy Kimmel’s Big Night of Stars.

Eat A Cheeseburger!

Gossip Girl star Penn badgley heard about 90210’s skinny starlets and how they are too thin for TV. The 21-year-old actor told Popeater that he’s “never been proponent of the thin L.A. girls” and is glad that the females on his hit CW show “aren’t bone-thin.” (He’s currently romancing his on-and-off-screen girlfriend Blake Lively. Penn had some advice for the girls of 90210 (also a CW show): “I hope they eat a double cheeseburger or something.” Sounds like there’s could be feud brewing between the casts of 90210 and Gossip Girl!

Gossip Girl Realism Scale Rating: -5!

Each Gossip Girl episode is reviewed by New York Magazine, then assigned a score according to the magazine's arbitrary, but hilarious "realism scale."

This week's show, "The Dark Knight" measured -5 on the nonsensical system. Here are some highlights from the publication's Gossip Girl analysis ...

• OMG! Marcus punched Chuck! Nobody ever gets what they deserve on this show. Plus 4.

• All the women in this episode have sweaty, dewy cleavage but perfect hair and non-sweaty upper lips. How is that fair? Realistic, we mean. Minus 5.

• Catharine: "Have you seen Nate?" Blair: "Um, no, it's a blackout." Plus 10.

• Nate's hair is better in this episode. It's less dry corn husk and more Greek statue. As it should be. Plus 2.

• We started hating those thin collars Dan was wearing two whole episodes ago. But now that they are button-down? Unforgivable. Minus 2.

• Speaking of Gossip Girl fashion disasters, that white Chanel Belt totally made Serena van der Woodsen look pregnant. Minus 5.

• Blair: "Hot young guy, aging beauty having her last fling before the plastic surgery starts? It's called a cliché." Plus 5.

• "What names does he call you when you make love?" Honestly? What names does anyone call each other when they "make love"? In high school. Minus 2.

• We're so glad that Vanessa told Dan how The Duchess threatened her to get her away from Nate. If this were any other show, she would have, like, not told and made us wait until like the end of the next episode, like how they always tease that Lo is going to eat Audrina's live, beating heart out of her chest during every episode of The Hills, but it never happens. Plus 2.

• Dan thinks that the very existence of rich people who are advantaged is unfair and he can't bear to be with Serena because of it. Thatis the reason, we are led to believe, for their breakup. Minus 10.

• For a moment, when Blair sold out Nate to Catharine, we thought "no way." Then we thought better. Plus 1.

Excellent Elvis!

Nick Jonas returns home in Los Angeles on Wednesday with his new golden retriever, Elvis.The 16-year-old Singer who received the pup as a gift from his family on his birthday yesterday named the pet pooch for two of his musical inspirations Elvis Costello and Elvis Presley. Nick wasalso seen carrying a 3-ring binder that read “Artistry: Golden Retriever”. Thats going to be one happy pooch! An excellent adition to the group! :]

Miley and Not That Mandy ;]

Miley Cyrus willl star in a new Disney film based on an upcoming Nicholas Sparks novel, reports Variety.The 15-year-old Hannah Montana star hopes to create a movie like Mandy Moore's A Walk to Remember. Miley won’t sing but only act in the drama that touches on family and romance. Her mom Tish will be act as executive producer.

Emma = Eh-Mazing.

New York City is crazed this week as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week brings in some of the worlds most famous designers. Shown here is Emma Roberts with her on and off again brown hair. Here shoes are a bit strange but I kind of like them. She manages to pull of the gray and black and still look young and in style with the beanie. This would recieve a 9 out of 10 in my book.

Easy Breezy Beautiful Ellen

Ellen DeGeneres is the new face of CoverGirl, the comedienne announced on her talk show on Tuesday. "I am here to set the record straight right now. I am not pregnant. It just turned out to be a bump. I went and had it checked out," she cracks. "That's not the news. I am the new face of CoverGirl." She then jokingly poses as a model. "That's the first thing they teach you when you're a CoverGirl," she quips. Although her campaign is not set to launch until January, "somehow people found out about it," she says. "Theyre putting some lip liner on me man, they love lip liner!" she says. "I got hours and hours." She says she's "very, very excited" about the new gig. She adds, "Its a very cool thing Im honored and the photo shoot was 'easy, breezy, beautiful CoverGirl'"

Fierce :]

Fierce Tyra Banks fierce. Tyra works her best supermodel pose as she makes a glam entrance Monday at Cosmopolitan's Fun Fearless Phenom Awards in New York City, where the America's Next Top Model host was honored for her style. Im so glad she switched back to the long way dark hair. She is looking so thin lately and gorgeous as always.

90210 No-No!

According to reports, Shenae Grimes who plays Annie Wilson on 90210 has been "tormenting everyone on set" with rude behavior toward cast, crew, and extras because - as she put it - "This is my show - everyone else is riding my coattails." She's even said to have scoffed at a guest star, "Who the hell are you?" This is not a good start for a young actor trying to make her way into the movie industry. Save that stuff for the drama-infused show. Be Careful Shenae :O

Total Request Long Gone :/

Total Request Live better known as TRL, has been officially canceled after ten years. TRL executive producer Dave Sirulnick said that show, which is taped in Times Square, will take its final bow in a two-hour special on a Saturday afternoon in November. He added that show isn’t “ending for good” but needs a “break.” Originally hosted by Carson Daly, the music video countdown show premiered music videos and helped to launch the careers of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, 'NSync and other teen pop acts. A sad day for music lovers all over. Guess its FMNTV's time to shine.

Fabulous Free People

Ashley Tisdale recently got a gorgeous haircut that really accentuated her face. Making the most of her new hair, she adds a long beaded pair of Free People earrings to the mix while running errands around L.A. These earrings are girly but hippie at the same time. You could wear them with a black shirt jeans and some cute shoes and look fashion forward. Maybe long earrings will be all the rage this fall season. Her Oufits are Damaged!

Danity Kane singer Aubrey O'Day has just been named by Us Weekly as one of their 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers of 2008. Are they kidding? Would you classify a pink monstrosity something even remotely stylish? Look I like Danity Kane there songs are catchy but just because your part of a fun girl group does not mean you can wear totally hideous things and get away with it. Your clothing line Heart on My sleeve has some really cute stuff. So why do you wear these oufits if you design cute stuff? Sorry Aubrey I just dont think you are ready for The 25 most stylish list yet. :/


A vest that could be compared to a bird that doesn't even cover your chestal area inst appropriate or fashionable in any regards. A turquoise flamenco dress that shows your nipples is nowhere near appropriate and shoving your hair on your head is just gross. I'm not really digging the whole am so tan I cant even really tell if its still me look with the silver around my boobs. You can still be fashionable and respectable and a role model all at the same time. Crazy Aubrey I know!

Miley Cyrus Bringing Hope

Miley Cyrus performed at Disney’s Concert For Hope Benefit Concert on Sunday at the Gibson Amphitheater, Universal City, Calififornia. The Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato joined Miley to support the benefit concert, aiding cancer research and treatment programs of City of Hope. Last year, Disney donated $1 from every ticket sold during her highly successful “Best of Both Worlds” concert tour to cancer research at City of Hope. The concert series raised more than $1 million. William Mosley Showing Some Nickelodeon Love

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian star William Moseley, aka Peter Pevensie, attends the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards UK 2008 held at the ExCeL London on Saturday in London, England.The 21-year-old English actor was presented with the Favorite Male Film Star award by Harry Potter stars Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood). Congratulations, William!

Prince Caspian costars Anna Popplewell and Georgie Henley also helped Moseley present another award/blimp later on in the ceremony. William is looking hansome as always. Aww Georgie (Lucy P.) looks so grown up and cute at the show. She is almost as tall as Anna (Susan P.) :]

Headed To Church

Miley Cyrus was seen with Justin Gaston 20, (a Nashville Star contestant). The two were on there way to Sunday morning church service in Pasadena, California. The 15-year-old Hannah Montana star and Gaston, who flipped through a pocket Bible while walking, grabbed lunch together with her mom Tish, father Billy Ray and younger sister Noah. Later the group grabbed lunch at one of Miley's Faves Cheesecake Factory. Most recently, Justin was featured as the love interest in teen country superstar Taylor Swift's Love Story music video. Justin is also an underwear model. :] So do this mean the two are going out or are they just friends? We will just have to wait and see?

Former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson is engaged to David Otunga, aka Punk! “I can confirm that Jennifer got engaged to her boyfriend David on Friday night in L.A.” her rep tells People. Punk, who tried to win Tiffany Pollard's heart on a VH1 reality show (I Love New York 2), asked her to marry him with a Neil Lane diamond ring on the Dreamgirls Oscar winner’s 27th birthday. Congrats to the happy couple!

While sitting down, the 15-year-old Hannah Montana star showed her mom, Tish Cyrus a picture on her T-Mobile Sidekick. Lately Miley has been looking really happy and not so in the spotlight. Go Miley!

Making the Band’s Donnie Klang recently talked about having the perfect song for her: "Miley Cyrus is about to take her career in a whole new direction. I’ve been writing with that in mind. I would love to do a song with her. I wrote a song called ‘Rebelling’ that I feel like would fit her. Especially for a singer that’s in the limelight at such a young age, she’s eventually going to hit a point, like Britney or Lindsay, where she needs to go out and rebel.”

Looks like Nate Archibald kisses Jenny Humphrey in an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl. Chace Crawford and Taylor Momsen seem to be having quite a fun time kissing each other. She cant be that awesome of a kisser, she is only 15!!! What makes it worse is Taylor's terrible haircut. I think its time to find someone her own age not years older than her.
